Best habit tracker apps (2026): 25 compared on real data

25 iPhone habit trackers compared on Apple's own data: ratings, price, devices, update dates and privacy labels, checked October 1, 2026, plus review themes.

We make Orbit, one of the apps on this page. Orbit is on pre-order and releases October 6, 2026. Facts about other apps come from their App Store listings and their own sites, listed under Sources. Nothing here is sponsored and there are no affiliate links.

Key takeaways
  • Start with three questions: how many habits you track, which devices you use, and whether you want a game or a plain list.
  • Ratings are close at the top: 21 of the 24 established apps here average 4.6 stars or more, so price, devices and missed-day rules decide more than stars.
  • 8 of the 24 declare 'Data Used to Track You' on their App Store privacy label; HabitShare's last update is dated January 27, 2023.
  • In 1,764 recent low-star reviews of 18 of these apps, 944 used money or billing words and 272 described bugs.
  • We make Orbit, the 25th app; it had no ratings yet when we checked, because its App Store release date is October 6, 2026.

The best habit tracker app is the one whose limits you never hit, on the devices you already carry, with missed-day rules you can live with. Ratings will not tell you that: almost everything at the top of the App Store scores between 4.6 and 4.9. So this page compares 25 iPhone habit trackers on things you can check, using Apple's own data, checked on October 1, 2026.

Disclosure: we make Orbit, the 25th app on this page. We did not install and test the other 24; every fact comes from the App Store listing, Apple's public data or the developer's own site, and each is linked.

Three questions first

  1. How many habits? Three or fewer: almost any free tier works (Habitify allows 3, HabitKit 4). Ten or more: budget for a paid tier, or pick an app without a stated cap such as Habitica, or Streaks at $5.99 once for up to 24 tasks.
  2. Which devices? Want your watch or your Mac? Check the devices column. Android too? Habitify, HabitKit, Strides, Way of Life, Atoms, Finch and Habitica all link to Android or web versions from their own sites.
  3. A game or a list? A game or a character (Habitica, Finch, Habit Rabbit, Cub, Orbit) works for people who need a reason to open the app. A list (Streaks, Habitify, HabitKit, Way of Life) works for people who already have the reason.

The 25, on Apple's data

Sorted by number of US ratings. "Tracks you" is whether the developer's App Store privacy label includes "Data Used to Track You". "Mac" includes iPhone and iPad apps the App Store lists as compatible with Apple silicon Macs.

What the low-star reviews complain about

We pulled the most recent US reviews available in Apple's public feed for 18 of these apps on October 1, 2026: 7,145 reviews, 1,764 of them one or two stars. Keyword counts across those 1,764 (a review can match several):

Theme in a low-star reviewReviewsApps with at least one
Money: subscription, charge, trial, refund, price94418 of 18
Bugs, crashes, freezes27217 of 18
Reminders and notifications12218 of 18
Ads10715 of 18
Sync and iCloud6812 of 18
Lost data, habits or streaks5815 of 18

Money dominates, but not evenly: about half of those 944 come from two apps, Fabulous (294) and Productive (175). The review windows differ by app (for some, the most recent 500 reviews cover weeks; for others, years), so compare themes, not apps.

What the others do better than Orbit

Plenty. Every established app here has thousands of ratings and Orbit has none yet. Streaks, Habitify, Strides, Routinery, Grit, everyday and HelloHabit run on Apple Watch; Orbit does not. Habitify, HabitKit and Habitica reach Android or the web through their own versions. Streaks and HabitKit offer a pay-once option; Orbit has no paid tier to compare. And if you want dozens of separately counted habits, a list app will suit you better than Orbit's pillar structure.

Where Orbit fits

We make Orbit. It groups your day into three to seven pillars (sleep, movement, food, focus, people and so on), logs in one tap, and turns each log into energy for your Orb, a companion whose mood follows your day. A single missed day is covered by a grace day, scheduled rest days never count against you, and a vacation pause freezes everything for up to 30 days. Orion, an AI coach, sees your logs and remembers what you tell him. It is free with no in-app purchases in version 1.0, iPhone only, and its App Store release date is October 6, 2026.

Method and changelog

Data: Apple's iTunes Lookup API and US App Store listings for all 25 apps, the developers' sites where linked, and Apple's public customer-reviews feed, all read on October 1, 2026. We did not install or test the apps. Ratings move daily; we will refresh this table monthly.

Changelog: October 1, 2026, first edition.

Questions people ask

What is the best habit tracker app?

There is no single answer. For a paid-once list, Streaks. For cross-platform with three free habits, Habitify. For offline streak grids, HabitKit. For a game, Habitica. For a pet, Finch. Start from how many habits you track and which devices you use.

What is the most popular habit tracker?

By US App Store ratings on October 1, 2026, Finch (758,165 ratings), then Me+ (248,215) and Habit Tracker by Inner Grow (147,465).

Which habit tracker works on Apple Watch?

Of these 25, the App Store lists Apple Watch compatibility for Habit Tracker (Inner Grow), Productive, Fabulous, Streaks, Strides, Routinery, Grit, Atoms, Habitify, HabitMinder, everyday and HelloHabit.

Which habit trackers do not track you?

16 of the 24 established apps here do not declare 'Data Used to Track You' on their App Store privacy label. (Not Boring) Habits and Eden declare 'Data Not Collected'. The label is the developer's own declaration.

Did you test these apps?

No. Every cell comes from the App Store listing or the developer's site, checked on October 1, 2026, and the review counts come from Apple's public review feed. We say so because most comparison pages imply testing they did not do.
