We make Orbit, one of the apps on this page. Orbit is on pre-order and releases October 6, 2026. Facts about other apps come from their App Store listings and their own sites, listed under Sources. Nothing here is sponsored and there are no affiliate links.

- Finch holds 4.95 stars from 758,165 US ratings, and 410 of its 450 most recent reviews were 3 stars or more: most people are happy with it.
- Of the 40 one- and two-star Finch reviews from September 2026, 15 mention paying, a subscription, a charge or a trial, and 8 object to brand tie-ins in the monthly themes.
- Pick an alternative by your reason: a calmer tone (Streaks, Habitify), mood without a pet (Daylio, How We Feel), streak data (HabitKit, Way of Life), or doing it with people (HabitShare, Habitica).
- Before you switch, check what you keep: we could not confirm a Finch export option, so look in the app first.
- We make Orbit, one of the nine; it is the option if you still want a companion, just not a pet.
If you are looking for Finch alternatives, start with why you are leaving, because the right replacement for "too much tapping" is not the right one for "I want my mood data without a bird". We read every one- and two-star Finch review from September 2026, sorted the reasons, and matched nine apps to them. Every fact about another app was checked on October 1, 2026 on its App Store listing or its own site.
Disclosure: we make Orbit, one of the nine apps below. It gets one lane, the same table, and the same rules.

Why people leave Finch: the counts
First, the honest context. Finch has 4.95 stars from 758,165 US ratings, the largest number of any habit or self-care app we looked at, and 410 of its 450 most recent US reviews (all from September 2026) gave three stars or more. Most people are happy with it.
The other 40 are the useful ones for this page. We read each and coded the reasons; one review can carry more than one.
| Reason in the review | Reviews (of 40) |
|---|---|
| Paying, a subscription, a charge or a free trial | 15 |
| Of those: an unexpected charge or a trial that converted | 6 |
| Brand tie-ins and promotions in the monthly themes | 8 |
| Freezes, bugs, lost data or a lost streak | 6 |
| Objections to content or values in the clothing and items | 5 |
| Too much tapping, feels like a chore, repetitive | 4 |
| A feature they used was removed | 2 |
| A privacy setting turned back on after an update | 1 |
A note on what is missing: almost nobody calls Finch childish. In all 450 recent reviews, 7 used a word like "childish", "cutesy" or "for kids", and none of those 7 was a low-star review. Several said it works for kids and adults alike.

Pick by your reason
"I want a calmer, grown-up tracker"
Streaks is a list of up to 24 tasks with a streak each, paid once. Habitify is clean and cross-platform, free for three habits. Both drop the story and the pet entirely.
"I want the mood check-ins, not the bird"
Daylio is a micro-diary: pick a mood, tag activities, read charts, export to PDF or CSV. How We Feel is a free emotions journal from a nonprofit; its listing says your data stays on your device unless you opt in to share it anonymously for research.
"I want the numbers"
HabitKit draws every habit as a grid and works offline, with four habits free. Way of Life has pie and bar charts with trend lines, and CSV or Excel export.
"I want to do this with people"
HabitShare lets you choose which friends see which habits. Habitica turns habits into a party-based game with quests, on the web as well as phones.
"I still want a companion, just not a pet"
That is the lane we built Orbit for. Your Orb is a small living world whose mood follows your day: log a walk or a glass of water and it reacts. It is not fed, dressed or sent on adventures. Missed days are handled by rules, not purchases: a grace day covers a single miss, scheduled rest days never count against you, and a vacation pause freezes everything for up to 30 days. Orion, an AI coach, can see your logs and remembers what you tell him. Orbit is free, iPhone only, with an App Store release date of October 6, 2026, and it had no ratings when we checked on October 1, 2026.
What Finch does better
Finch does several things none of the nine match. It is on iPhone and Android with core features free, according to its own site. Its scale means the community, the Discord and the seasonal events are alive. Sending "good vibes" to friends is gentler than any social feature here. Finch Care is a public benefit corporation. And for many people the bird is exactly the point: a reason to open the app on a bad day. If the pet is what keeps you going, the best move may be to stay and turn off what bothers you.

What you keep and lose by switching
- Your history. We could not confirm an export option in Finch's public pages on October 1, 2026. Check the app's settings first.
- Your streak. No app imports a Finch streak. Pick an app whose missed-day rules you can live with before you start the new one.
- Your friends. Friends lists do not move between apps. HabitShare and Habitica need your friends to join too.
- The money. If you subscribe to Finch Plus, cancel in your Apple account settings before deleting the app; deleting does not cancel.
Method
Listings, prices and ratings come from Apple's public US data and each developer's site, checked on October 1, 2026; we did not install and test the apps. The review counts come from Apple's public customer-reviews feed: 450 Finch reviews dated September 1 to 30, 2026, of which 40 were one or two stars, read and coded by hand. We will refresh this page monthly and list what changed.
